Pick Up Your Cross And Follow Me

Have you ever seen a “miracle”? Whether the miracle was great or small, there was no doubt in your mind that God was responsible. At that moment, you saw Heaven and earth merge and become ONE place. I’m sure it was a time of profound gratitude.

During these intensely grateful times, it is easy to “warm up” to our Heavenly Father...to move beyond lukewarm as we feel His love and caring for us. How could we share it if we didn’t experience His love? This is a time of joy and peace as we are drawn closer to God.

Let’s be brutally honest...this time is about us. It’s about God’s grace and mercy. He hasn’t asked anything of us except to BELIEVE in exchange for salvation! He will even leave the 99 in search of the ONE who does not believe. (Luke 15:4)

But what do we do when He asks for our help...to do something for Him? Are we too busy? Do we look for “alternative” explanations in scripture to support our respectful “NO” to God?

God has been searching my heart and illuminating some dark places. For example, what would I do if Jesus said, as He did to His disciples,

“If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)

What if He said you can bring one backpack but leave everyone, and everything, else, behind? What if that obedience led me to the lonely roads of persecution and possible death...all for following Jesus?
